$2,500,000 Settlement; Burn Injury; Hot Grease
A 1-year-old child was severely burned when he pulled a cord attached to a fry cooker on a countertop. Suit against the defendant alleged that the cord failed to detach as required by ANSI standards.
The child sustained 25% third degree burns when covered by hot grease, and incurred medical expenses of $400,000 after 13 operations. The child’s mother also sustained burns when she picked up her child who was covered with hot grease. A settlement in the amount of $2,500,000 was obtained.
